Copyright case: RIAV disagrees with Nokia’s argument

VietNamNet Bridge – Nokia sent a letter to the Recording Industry Association of
Vietnam (RIAV) on Wednesday saying that Nokia asked FPT Online to be responsible for the case.

According to Nokia, FPT admitted that it may not have the necessary rights for all of the music content on their website. Nokia asked FPT Online to be responsible for the case because FPT Online had previously confirmed to Nokia that they had the legal rights for the complete music content on their website.

RIAV said that recognizes Nokia’s goodwill but once again the association affirmed that Nokia is trying to avoid its responsibility in this case.

RIAV’s Vice Chairwoman, Truong Thi Thu Dung, said RIVA has completed necessary documents for the lawsuit and stated that they will bring the case to court as soon as possible if Nokia continues avoiding its responsibility.

“We want to directly solve the case with Nokia. As a matter of fact, we will independently work with FPT Online about another matter,” Dung said.

Related to 10,466 songs, Dung said the violation is very serious because a customer who pays merely several millions of VND for a Nokia cell phone can own 1,000 songs, while the value of these songs is much higher than the value of the cell phone.

On October 27, RIAV organized a press conference in Ho Chi Minh City threatening to file a lawsuit against Nokia for using 10,446 songs of RIAV’s members for business without permission.
